The Cocoon house combines contemporary design with traditional Japanese building techniques resulting in quality design. Surrounded by mature trees it sits on a large piece of land (1060 sqm) in Wadano on the outskirts of Happo Village in Hakuba, just a short distance from Happo One and Sakka ski resorts. The land is partially forested with easy access from the street, even in heavy snow.
The exterior is clad in a Charcoal siding that contrasts strongly with the western red cedar that is accented in the covered deck areas.
The house is split over 3 levels; with entry and amenities on level 01 along with a single car garage and storage. Sleeping quarters and bathrooms are on level 02, with kitchen, living areas and covered deck areas on level 03.
Internally walls are a mix of western red cedar and feature white paneling under a ceiling of western red cedar and exposed timber structural beams.
There is hydronic underfloor heating throughout, with Oak floorboards in living and common areas, carpet to the bedrooms, and tiles to the utility areas. Kitchens and bathrooms have been fitted with Grohe taps and Miele appliances.
